UPDATE: We are NOT Closing
:singing:
Hey guys,
It's been fun, but I don't have the time or desire to maintain this site any longer. Life has taken over.
If any of you want to take the entire site, including the downloads and find a new host for it, I'm happy to have that discussion. But it will have to be a unanimous decision by the admins of this site before we do something like that.
Keep in mind, this site averages 75 to 100 gigs of data transfer a month and there are currently 25 gigs of files here on the site.
The forum runs on SMF with Aeva Media for downloads. The Joomla site that is on the home page will not be included as its on an older version of Joomla that is not supported and I don't want to spend the 50+ hours it will take to migrate it to Joomla 3. It's not really been used for over 2 years now.
I'm looking to shut this down in the next 2 weeks. So if you have any ideas... feel free to speak up.
Thanks!

That's a sad thing, but family first. I wish I had the knowledge and time to take it over, but I don't. Thanks for the ride, Robert, and good luck to you.
-
Good luck and thanks for everything u have done.
-

As like everybody else I haven't got a clue how to maintain a site like this so I guess this means the end of an era has arrived. Thanks Robert for 7-8 years of good times and great memories. Maybe we'll cross paths again in the future. and goodbye to all the members and other staff who have shared this experience with me it's been a great ride!
-
I have the time too but have no idea how to run a site like this. Robert, thanks for the opportunities you have given me here, letting me post my cars and all. Good luck to you in the future and thanks for all you have done for the Nascar 2003 community. God bless you, my friend!!!
-
Sorry to hear this even though I've been away forever. Thanks to Robert mostly, but also to all of you guys who were part of my tenure here and all who have downloaded any of my cars and/or tracks. Have fun out there!

This is some sad news. But I understand Robert's reasoning, time constraints and Family. There is a vast amount of informative help and flies covering a wide variety of NR2K3 mods over the years. Would hope someone can step in to keep it running.
-
Robert...real life should always come first.
Thanks for letting me play in your sandbox these last couple of years. It's been a blast.
All the best of everything that life holds for you in the future.
-
Thanks loads for what this site has been, a cornerstone in our community. Hope you're not going to ride into the sunset as well.
-
Thanks for the years of allowing me to be associated with this fine group. Many have helped me with problems with max 8 and 9. Really will miss your site, but I agree that family and life always comes first.
Greg

Thanks for everything. The site will be missed
-
Thank you to all of you that have put up with my questions and requests. I have "met" some great painters and other knowledgable people who have been great friends to me. To Mr. Vining, Thank you for your awesome website. I will truly miss this site. Godspeed, Sir.
-
Robert, I want to thank you for allowing me to be a Painter @ Racin' Grafix. I've learned a lot in the past few years. It's sad to see this site go, but like they say, "All good things MUST come to an end". Thank you again, and Good Luck to you, my friend. :PDT_Armataz_01_37:

Looks like I better get busy downloading stuff :-\ So sad to see but very understandable...this site has done so much for so many people and this wonderful game over the years. Thanks for everything guys!

would it be very difficult to learn how to take this site over? what would someone have to do? And could the person who took it over get all the paints they wanted LOL?
-
Yeah I would be curious to know how much it would cost monthly to maintain and what not.
-
As would I to like to know the amount and effort we'd need to look into the keep this site up and running
-
Really sad to log into the site and see this today. But family is always first and I will miss seeing the site here.
-
perhaps a group of us can keep it going... I am willing to give it a try with help of course.
-
I would also
-
I've already sent Robert a PM asking him about the costs and what we need to do to keep it going...I'm waiting on a response! Right now I'm having problems getting an attachment to upload! Anybody else having difficulty posting attachments?
-
I'm getting this error:
Your attachment couldn't be saved. This might happen because it took too long to upload or the file is bigger than the server will allow.
Please consult your server administrator for more information
-
Robert,
Thank you for always having a place for the Cup90 carsets I have released over the last several years. Thank you for always helping me out whenever possible. And for keeping this site going for so long.
-
Dawson and Jopa... if you hear anything let me know... lets keep this going in the honor of the founder... if he is okay with it
-
I have messaged Robert about I but haven't gotten a response yet.

That's great with me...any else having problems posting/uploading files?
-
I don't know about the rest of you, but, I'm confident that these guys could run this site. I fully support you guys. Lets keep this site alive. :Woot_Emoticon:

If you're able to work out a way to keep this going, I'll try to help monetary wise as I can. Good luck.

As far as the cost goes I think it gets back to Robert's original post...i.e. 25GB of files, 100GB of monthly transfer. I can't be certain, but there's a good chance Robert's running his own server (seeing as how he does this as a business), so it's a matter of asking how much the annual cost is. I can only speak from my own personal experience but my site's server costs me $55 a year. For that I get 10GB of storage & 300GB of monthly bandwidth transfer (but then, I don't need a lot of transfer as there's nothing to download from my site...it's purely informational).
That being said, there are some real good deals out there (I'm probably going to switch servers after 10+ years when my current contract's up in April)...even GoDaddy can be had for $3.49 a month ($41.88 annually) for 100GB of storage and unlimited bandwidth. There's even some better prices from servers you've never heard from to be had, but I think that would involve some research to find out about up-times and what-not.
If y'all are really interested in keeping it going, I'll chip in as well. Throw 5 of us together at $10 a head for a year and it should be covered. Or maybe not...my knowledge of server prices is limited. I do know a fair amount of coding but I know nothing about how to make a forum work.
-
I'm in if we can get something lined up.
-
Message me an address for a collection and I'll pitch in. I'm with you guys. Just let me know how much. We get a couple of bucks from each member and we should be good.
-
I'm all for it too...let me know how and when! I really would like to know if any body else is having upload problems? Are you guys even seeing my replies to this forum? Please give me a response!

I've done some forum moderating and have a little bit knowledge in that area!
-
for 60 bucks a year... i am in ...heck I will pay the whole thing just to make it easier... let me know... i am in....
-
That's what I thought...hell I'll buy the damn site myself!
-
That's great news, Dave. I know you can handle this.
-
well if some of you guys can talk Robert into it .ill post $500 up to keep it going as long as the crew stays the same .hate to see it gone . I just know how to paint but nothing on running and keeping it up ..that was my deal with Rich when we had Dyno he took care of every thing with Joey and I was the bank. so lets see.
-

I tried uploading a car saturday for a render request to no avail Dave, so something is restricting it.

While its going to be so sad to see this site disappear, I completely understand. Its the same thing I went through a few years back when I shut down Outlaw Paintshop. Its tough but sometimes its a decision that has to be made. I will really be saddened to see the site go and just want to thank Robert and everyone here for all there hard work over the years.
-
A site like this isn't going to run on one of those 3.49 a month packages. You are going to have to come off with more than that and have a webmaster to boot. Good luck.
Robert I wish you well bud.
-
Hey guys... thanks so much for all the well wishes and support. As many of you have sent PM's or emails, sorry for the late or no reply until now. As I mentioned in the first post, life has gotten really busy lately.
Here's the deal... for the site to live on, I have to separate the Joomla and SMF integrations, because the site itself is an outdated, unsupported version of joomla, and if it gets hacked, the entire site would go down. I really didn't want to put 10+ hours of dev time into creating a new front page to the site, plus moving the 2500 or so files over from joomla (downloads2) to the forum downloads. However, I see there's a lot of support to keep it going, so I will see if I can schedule my team to work on this over the next few weeks if we find a small break in our work schedule.
Basically, this site is on a dedicated server which costs me $150 a month. I leased a 2nd dedicated server 2 months ago (also at $150 a month), and its running a much newer version of PHP than this old server is. This site is the last site to migrate from my old server over to the new server, and I was trying to avoid the work it will take to get the site ready for the new server. That's why I said I was shutting down.
So, another month of the old server was paid on Friday, so I basically have a month left to get this site moved to the new server. Which I will do.
We aren't going anywhere.
Keep your money guys... it was never about the money.
Thanks again for all your support. Really means a lot to me.
-
Robert if there is anything I can do to help transition this don't hesitate to ask me! I have more free time now that I'm retiring (not quite there 100% yet) but I have lightened the workload considerably!
-
Robert, this is great news to hear. Thank you.
