I've been thinking about doing some 1971 cars for some time. So I finally decided to give it a shot, and see how they turn out. It took a lot of work to get the Plymouth and Dodge to look like 1971 models while on 1969-70 bodies. So I need your opinions. Tell me if you think they look ok or not. Do you like them? Should I do more? Please comment below everyone!
-
Those look really amazing Dave thank you so much!
-
You absolutely should do more 1971 cars. This first group looks amazing!
-
I've painted a couple of 1971 cars lately, but I have been having computer problems. I've been painting on my laptop, and using my 4G on my cell phone to go online. You see, my desktop caught a nasty virus, so I can't even use it right now. I might have lost everything. Including some new cars I had done.
Check these cars out that I have on the laptop.
-
Let me post a couple more pics of the 6 car.
-
Really nice. Would love to see a 1971 car set!
-
I don't know when my computer is going to be fixed or replaced. I'm not sure my phone will recognize car files so I can post them. I also need renders so people can see how much better they look than in the crappy screenshots I have been able to take. Here are two more I did today.
-
I had done these before my computer got that virus:
I hope I didn't lose them. I restarted the 71 anyway.
-
Today I got a couple more cars done. The #2 of Dave Marcis. ..

David Pearson's #33 Pontiac GTO. ..

Man... you are on a roll with these 1971 schemes! Love 'em!
-
I'm still doing 1971 cars when I can. Unfortunately, I still can't post them yet. I have no way to skill them, and I don't have a 1970 pitcrew template either. I do have a ton of cars though.
Check out this idea I got tonight- putting 1970-71 Fords and Mercuries on the Dodge Charger body. What do you guys think? With a few tweaks, would it look better on the Charger body?
-
Dave, when this sim affords you only limited options, you have to get creative... which you have artfully accomplished here. In my opinion, the Fords and Mercuries look fine on the Charger bodies. Is it perfect? No, but it's pretty darned good.
As for skill rating the 1971 cars as a prerequisite before releasing them, I wouldn't worry too much about that. Most people have their own preferred methods for skill rating car sets and any ratings that the cars may have when you do release them will likely be changed by the end users anyway. That being said, I personally rate my car sets using the NRatings program with comes with several different formulas to try. If you were to choose using the NRatings method, I know that data for the 1971 Cup Season is available to accurately rate your cars.
If you are unfamiliar with NRatings or for some reason cannot use it, I would be more than happy to help you with that as I have assisted several other skilled painters who have created historic NASCAR car sets for release to the NR2003 community.
Either way, you are doing an awesome job recreating these great nostalgic schemes. Keep up the great work! You'd be surprised at the sizeable, dedicated and loyal following who are anxiously awaiting the release of these cars!
-
Those look really good Dave!
-
Thanks guys! J.R., I'll take you up on that offer to help. Look for a pm from me.
I have been tinkering with templates for the cars lately. Take a look, and tell me what you think.
-
Hey Dave. Got your PM and I responded.
Those temps look fine. Are you creating them to resemble pics of real cars that you have?
-
Yeah, I was shooting for a specific Dodge and a specific Ford with those templates. I didn't keep the Ford one though, because I wasn't satisfied with how it looked. Check out this Chevelle template I just made. I like how this turned out:
-
Yup. That's a winner! :13:
-
Ok, I have finally posted 3 more 1971 cars! More are coming.
-
Nice work Dave!
-
Ok, there are now 12 1971 cars uploaded. Get em' while they're hot! :) :13:
-
Good looking cars.
-
Thanks! I just posted 3 more cars. This brings it up to 15 cars.
-
Three more cars posted today (6/7/18)! What do you guys think of them? What do y'all think of the set as a whole so far?
-
Well... I'm pretty sure you know how I feel about these cars. ;)
I freakin' love this car set! :singing:
-
These cars are amazing Dave! Thank you John for your help with these. I love this set as well.
-
Thanks guys! I'm glad you two like them. I'd like to hear opinions from some more people if possible.
I posted three more cars this morning (6/11/18). Including two that people are sure to want. I hope you guys like them. This brings my set up to 24 cars so far, and only one is an alternate paint scheme.

Here are some comparison pics ...
-
I think they all look great Dave. I've always loved this era of the sport.
-
These 1971 cars look terrific, Dave. Only problem is that Petty Plymouth is from 1972. STP made no appearances on Petty's car in '71.

They sure did in 1971. They were on his car at Riverside.

I have done a Pepsi car for him too. That's coming too. I even did a 1970 carryover that he ran on short tracks. I'm not sure if I should release that one or not though.
-
Ok, I posted 3 more cars today (6/14/18). Charlie Glotzbach's Chevy, and 2 Cecil Gordon Mercurys. This brings it up to 27 cars from 24 different drivers. We can almost call this thing a set now! You could at least run them at a short track. ;)
-
Here are some comparison pics for those last three cars.
-
These cars are awesome Dave! Keep them coming.
-
Thanks Ongias! Ok, I posted three Bill Dennis cars today (6/16/18). Get em' while they're hot!
