1969 #76 Ben Arnold Ford Galaxie v2 posted by Dave76 07/04/17, 04:33 PM 415 4.94 (1 vote)
What better day to release the 76 car than on the fourth of July? I previously did the version of this car without the red in the numbers. So I updated the numbers, and made a few tweaks you'll probably never notice, such as correcting the number of hood pins to three, correcting the rims to metallic, etc.

Ben Arnold (July 30, 1946 - ) is a former NASCAR driver from Fairfield, AL. He competed in 132 Sprint Cup Series events in his career, spanning from 1968 to 1973. He finished in the top ten (10th) in 1972 points and earned twenty-one top-tens in his career. His best finish in a race was a trio of sixths. Following a one-race deal in 1973, Arnold retired from the sport.

So here is Ben Arnold's Galaxie. It wasn't a good looking car, and neither was it fast. He didn't lead any laps, and he sure didn't win any races. However, he was there in the middle of the race every week. Which is a great reason for you to have him! :P

1969 #58 Andy Hampton Dodge posted by Dave76 06/29/17, 11:25 AM 408 4.94 (1 vote)
The ARCA Daytona 200 started as an annual 250-mile race in 1964, grew to a 300-miler in 1968 before reducing back to 200 miles/80 laps in 1974. During that short stretch, Louisville, Kentucky's Andy Hampton scratched his name in the record books as the only two-time winner of the 300 mile ARCA race at Daytona, victorious in 1968 and 1972.After conquering the first ever 300-mile ARCA race at Daytona in '68, he took the same car, pushed it over on the other side of the fence, and finished ninth in the Daytona 500. He pulled the same Daytona double in 1969 when he finished third in the Daytona ARCA 300, and 10th in the Daytona 500. hamptonspeedwayshot400pix.jpgHampton's ninth place finish in the Daytona 500 in '68 netted him $2,525, a far reach from today's purse standards. Over a victory road stretch that spanned eight seasons, Hampton racked up 20 career ARCA Racing Series victories and finished third in ARCA championship points twice in 1968 and 1970. He also finished fifth in ARCA points in '69.

1969 #8 Vic Elford Dodge Coronet posted by Dave76 06/29/17, 11:23 AM 348 4.94 (1 vote)
Victor Henry Elford (born 10 June 1935, in London) is a former sportscar racing, rallying and Formula One driver from England. He participated in 13 World Championship F1 Grands Prix, debuting on 7 July 1968. He scored a total of 8 championship points. Nicknamed "Quick Vic" by his peers Elford was mainly a famous sports car competitor as well as a successful rally driver, associated often with Porsche. In 1969, Harry Ranier put Elford in the #8 Dodge Coronet, normally driven by Bobby Watson in the ARCA series, in the Daytona 500. He did surprisingly well, starting 23rd, and finishing 11th.

1969 #57 Roy Mayne '67 Dodge posted by Dave76 06/24/17, 04:18 PM 377 4.94 (1 vote)
Although his boss, Ervin Pruitt, ran the car in the Daytona qualifying race, finishing 23rd, Roy Mayne ran the 57 Dodge in the 1969 Daytona 500. Is that legal? Old Ervin must have been hoping a veteran driver would do better than he could. Roy Mayne lasted 9 laps before he was sidelined with engine trouble. So much for that strategy, eh?

Ervin Pruitt was the owner of the 57 team, but he only ran 9 Grand National races in his life, 5 in 1968, and 4 in 1969. All in his own #57 Dodges. He didn't do too bad in 1969, finishing 23rd, 11th, 19, and 10th. It makes you wonder why he didn't stay behind the wheel, because he did just as good, if not better, than the journeyman drivers he hired to drive his cars. Maybe because his cars were so unreliable?

Friday Hassler was a NASCAR Grand National and Winston Cup Series driver and one of NASCAR's most competitive independent (non-factory) drivers. In 1969, he ran 18 races on his way to a 28th place finish in the standings. He picked up 6 top 10s along the way, averaging a 16th place start, and 17th place finish. Unfortunately, he was killed in practice for the Daytona 500 in 1972.

1969 #62 Homer Newland Dodge posted by Dave76 05/31/17, 11:13 AM 437 4.94 (1 vote)
Homer Newland (February 17, 1930 - July 4, 1997) was a NASCAR driver from Dearborn, MI. He competed in three Nextel Cup Series events in his career.

Newland's debut came in 1955, when he competed at Morristown. Starting positions in the field of thirty are unknown, but Newland only completed 120 of the 200 laps in route to a mediocre 22nd place finish.

Newland didn't return to action until 1969, when he competed at Michigan. Starting 42nd in the forty-four car field, Newland again fell many laps behind and struggled to a 36th place finish. Engine problems hampered Newland in his final race, blowing his mill and finishing 27th in the inaugural Talladega race.
