Although his boss, Ervin Pruitt, ran the car in the Daytona qualifying race, finishing 23rd, Roy Mayne ran the 57 Dodge in the 1969 Daytona 500. Is that legal? Old Ervin must have been hoping a veteran driver would do better than he could. Roy Mayne lasted 9 laps before he was sidelined with engine trouble. So much for that strategy, eh?
