1969 #58 Andy Hampton Dodge
The ARCA Daytona 200 started as an annual 250-mile race in 1964, grew to a 300-miler in 1968 before reducing back to 200 miles/80 laps in 1974. During that short stretch, Louisville, Kentucky's Andy Hampton scratched his name in the record books as the only two-time winner of the 300 mile ARCA race at Daytona, victorious in 1968 and 1972.After conquering the first ever 300-mile ARCA race at Daytona in '68, he took the same car, pushed it over on the other side of the fence, and finished ninth in the Daytona 500. He pulled the same Daytona double in 1969 when he finished third in the Daytona ARCA 300, and 10th in the Daytona 500. hamptonspeedwayshot400pix.jpgHampton's ninth place finish in the Daytona 500 in '68 netted him $2,525, a far reach from today's purse standards. Over a victory road stretch that spanned eight seasons, Hampton racked up 20 career ARCA Racing Series victories and finished third in ARCA championship points twice in 1968 and 1970. He also finished fifth in ARCA points in '69.
