1971 #43 Richard Petty Plymouth posted by Dave76 08/06/17, 03:51 PM 532 4.94 (1 vote)
Richard Petty absolutely dominated the 1971 season. He ran 46 races, and won 21 of them. That is 46% winning percentage. He picked up 38 top-5s (83%), 41 top-10s (89%), and 9 poles. Few champions have ever dominated that way. That's why he is the king!
1971 #17 David Pearson Mercury posted by Dave76 08/06/17, 03:49 PM 462 4.94 (1 vote)
David Pearson ran his last races for Holman-Moody in 1971. He only started 17 races, and only 9 races with Holman-Moody, which were in the first 16 races of the year. After that, he ran Ray Nichels cars in some of the remaining events (which only once made it to the finish). He won two races, picked up 8 top-5s (47%), 9 top-10s (53%), and two poles. That effort earned him 51st spot in the standings.

1969 #53 Tiny Lund Pepsi Torino posted by Dave76 07/26/17, 08:54 PM 485 4.94 (1 vote)
The inaugural Talladega race was held in 1969, but nobody wanted to race, because the tires couldn't handle the speeds. Bill France Jr. told the drivers it was safe if you stroked a bit. To prove it, he got in this Torino, and ran a few laps for everybody to see. The trick didn't work, so he had a hell of a time getting anything close to a full field. He entered his own car, with Tiny Lund driving it, with sponsorship from Pepsi. I think that was the only time a car owned by the France family ran a race.
1969 #53 Billy Taylor '67 Coronet posted by Dave76 07/26/17, 08:48 PM 396 4.94 (1 vote)
Billy Taylor is a former NASCAR driver from Yanceville, NC. He competed in two Nextel Cup Series events in his career.

Both came in 1969, when Taylor debuted at Daytona, running in the Daytona 500 qualifier event. He started 22nd in the field, completed all but five laps and finished 14th in the event. It was enough to make the prestigious Daytona event, but had engine issues early and finished 48th as a result.
