Is It Possible?
« on: 01/12/09, 05:03 PM »
I am wanting to do a combo scene for a guy who I just painted a SIM_COT and a PWF_CTS for.  Is it possible to create a dual vehicle scene with these 2 mods.  I'm running Max9.  All help appreciated.

Follow the merge video tutorial on the front of the site. The tutorial is for replacing wheels, but you can substitute a vehicle instead.

TY, Rob, I'll give it a shot.  Would you recommend starting w/ a dual car scene, replacing one with the COT, or should I start from scratch?  BTW, watched that tutorial the other day, didn't know you could do some of that stuff.  LOL

Personally I would start with a single car scene and merge the second vehicle into it. Make sure to drop second scene folder into the first so you can see the paint scheme, and then use the eyedropper in the material pallet to create the ball for changing the scheme.

Here is a 4-car scene that I made from one scene.  I used each temp that was available in the scene, then cloned the wheels for each car.  The only problems I had were that (1) with 2 Chevys in one, scene, I couldn't get the Mats editor to discern between paint schemes.  I had to put a Chevy on a Dodge skin so it would show up (guess I should have just merged another Chevy in, but I'm trying to start off slow so I remember everything I did for the next time). And (2) getting this scene to fit in a mirror floor scene.  That may have something to do with the aspect ratio that I was using.  Zooming in and making the cars smaller might fix that.

P.S. Is it just me, or does the #25 look like it's tilting away from the "camera"?

For a mirror floor, just merge it in and then use the scale tool to make it bigger, or do as you said and scale the cars smaller... but scaling the floor larger would be the easier thing to do.

The mirror floor is an object just like anything else... it can be moved (be careful not to move it below ground zero) and it can be scaled as well using the uniform scale tool.

Looks like you are doing good to me...

As for the 2 different chevy's, you can just use the eyedropper to pull the paint scheme off 1 of them into an unused material ball. If you change one, and it makes the other car change as well, then rename one of the balls chevy2 and then click and drag the chevy ball to one of the bodies and drop it, then click and drag the chevy2 ball to the second one and drop it.

You can rename any ball by selecting the material ball and then in the box where the name is right next to the eyedropper, just rename it there.

tried the ball/dropper method, but somehow i missed the part about getting around the Medit situation. I got the mirror floor scene to work ok, but the lighting on the cars does not seem to match the scene.  See below.
