How Much Does Fun Cost?
« on: 12/29/09, 12:59 PM »
Here's a new blog series I have started over at www.nr2003mods.com

This is the first post in a series talking about the history of nr2003 and what I have spent on this 'game' over the years.

Please leave a comment there if you happen to read it, and let me know your thoughts and questions.

My loving girlfriend bought me $50 worth of iracing credits for Christmas this year. It's fun because it's racing, but no where near $50 worth of fun!

So does that mean "It should cost more because it's so much fun" or "No matter how fun it is, at the end of the day it's still a video game and $50 is a bit much to move pixels on a display"?

Robert, great read. I think a good addition to this "How much does fun cost" series would be to have an article about what your first racing game was (either either console or PC) and how you progressed to the nr03 game, and how much estimated based off of prices you remember (or can find online) that you have really spent being part of what is considered a "small niche market".

To each his own... As much as I have and still love this Sim, one have to agree that the physics and feel are getting old after 5-6 years of use... I-Racing brings that new era, up to date Sim technology, and it's refreshing to me. New Physics, Laser scanned tracks, awesome netcode for online... Sure has its flaws and downsides, but at the end, it's day and night... I'm willing to put the $$$ in as I would have done for NR2003 for new physics before new cosmetics (mods)... and I understand why some are ticked about it too.

Nr2003 will survive to it though, thanks to the strong community that keeps it alive and to the modders who put their time into it ... Paid my CD 20.00$ in a garage sale in 2005, so I think it's paid back big time ! Would I pay 100.00$ for it now if it just came out, probably...

I mean that it's fun, but not worth me spending any more money on. If it was the only online sim racing option I might pay for it...but with all the support for n2003 still out there I'm going to stick to that.
