.car file size
« on: 06/23/13, 09:55 PM »
Hello. I would appreciate some advice. I have asked on some other boards and some have been gracious to reply but no solutions yet.

My question regards reducing .car file size, without significant loss of clarity. I'll use the Gen6 mod as example. I see often on sites where Gen6 cars are uploaded 2048 and have a file size of 1000-1500 kb. When I check the file (2048) using winmip, both the car and pit crew (512) textures are compressed. Even the 1000 kb cars I have downloaded have beyond excellent clarity. When I use a a 2048 temp and 512 pit, too often the best/lowest file size I get is 2904 kb. This is after I winmip compress it. Most of the time what I do, is save the 2048 as a psp file, to maintain layers, then resize to 1024 and save as TGA. If I compress from there I do lose quite a bit of clarity on the TGA. Just curious how most get their file sizes so small while maintaining quality.  Thanks.

I have used both PSP8 and Photoshop CS2 with same results.
