I've got a rendering question.
« on: 07/30/13, 10:15 PM »
So I started playing around with 3ds max8 (with Brazil) and I'm curious about something. I almost always use 2048 temps but when I did a test render (1680 x 1050) it seems to me that the image is slightly blurry. I don't know all that much about what the obscure 3ds settings do/mean. Am I missing something? Is there some certain 'secret' image type (.jpg, .bmp, .tiff, etc.) that's better than another?

Could one of y'all take a look at the attached and let me know if there's any way to improve the quality?

Thanks.

I went outside once. The graphics weren't all that great.
I suffer from CDO. It's like OCD, but in alphabetical order, LIKE IT SHOULD BE!
If you can't spill it, it ain't 'paint'!

When you pick your model ball and then pick your flat you'll see a dropdown for coordinates and a setting for blur...usually it defaults to 1.0 but if you make it between .25 and .4 you'll see a difference in sharpness!

Thanks Bill. I'll give it a shot later today and let you know the results.

And what is this...dueling 57s?  :)

I set it to 0 it then changes to 0.01, But only with 2048 or higher temps. It will make a 1024 temp look jaggy. You can also do this with any bump maps, but I never go below 0.5 for those.

Thanks Rogue. I'll give that a try as well.
I did change the 'smooth' setting (didn't see one for 'blur') to .30 and that seemed to improve it so I'm guessing that 0 will be even better.
