Hey,thanks for lookin.

I'm new to this 3Dmax thing,I have a question for you pro's here..lol

I have a winners circle type sceen,I want to merge 3 cars into it.1st,2nd,and 3rd place cars..Now then where do I get those cars from? It won't take them from the series car folder,as they are the wrong file type, and I dout I can just change the file extention.
Options?
Copy files as .tga?
Cut cars pic's from a replay?

Please give me some guidance.
Sorry to have my first post here one of desperation.lol

Again,thanks for looking.

you need to use the merge option in max and have 3ds.max scenes of the other cars you plan to merge into that scene.

3ds max doesn't use the tga or car file, it requires an actual model to render. So you need to find .max scenes for what you plan to use.

Also, I did a quick video on merging wheels into a scene that can help you get an idea of merging cars into as scene as well. It's the same principal.

Yes I watched that already and it will be a great help, thanks for that tute.
But I guess I'm somewhat confused as to what I have too do to get a car into that scene.Maybe I'm not being clear as to what I need to do.

I have a scene, that has the spaces for 3 cars, and the cars are already there. But in white only,I need to put the paints from those winning cars into that scene, onto the cars that are there now.Does that make any sence?.lol

Do I have to render an entire car for each one? that doesn't sound right..I guess what I'm asking is how do I get a new car paint into my materials handler? Maybe thats right.lol

Let's look at it like this,,I have the paint schemes from all the cars that raced that night in the series folder, how can I get those into a form that can be used to merged.

Thanks for the quick reply,I was hoping for that.lol

That's fine, I understand now... and the video talks about that in the beginning and shows you step by step how to change the materials on an object I don't know how else to tell you... you need to have the folders from the 3 original scenes inside your 'winners circle' scene folder for the materials to show up on those 3 merged vehicles when you bring them into the scene.

Watch the video again, turn up the sound and pay attention to what I am trying to explain in the beginning...

Then come back and ask questions.

The paint schemes from the car files will need to be exported off the cars and can be used in max as TGA, BMP, JPG, PNG or a number of file types... most folks just use the .tga file though because it's handy.

Open your game, go to opponent manager, select the car from the list, and click export on the lower right. Name it and click ok. Now close the game and go to export and import folder and there they are as TGA files.
