The Rioux Mods Cup Series visited Las Vegas Motor Speedway this past Monday, February 1st, 2010.
In Qualifying, Dorr, MI driver Travis Wright won the Racin Grafix Pole Award with a lap of 29.079. Cayce Rogers was second fast, while Keith Joseph, Si Upton, and Chris Forster completed the top five starting spots.
Travis Wright and Cayce Rogers brought the field to the green flag on the freshly paved high banks of Vegas in the Gamblers Anonymous 80 lap event. Using the outside lane, Rogers made the car stick going into Turn 1 and took control of the race from the word go. He would build a commanding lead as the second, third, and fourth place cars battled for position for several laps.
Keith Joseph who was running in the top 5 and looking for a solid finish after last weeks misfortune, started to feel a miss in the engine and made an unscheduled pit stop on lap 13. It would prove to be fatal as his night ended early with a broken camshaft and another DNF.
Rogers continued to set the pace as the race saw some long green flag runs. Travis Wright, Robert Vining, Steven Littrell, Si Upton and David Azevedo were all caught a lap down when the caution flew under green flag stops midway through the race. Si would be the recipient of the lucky dog to make his way back on the lead lap to take another shot at the leaders.
As the race wound down, the final caution came out on lap 68 of the 80 lap race when once again green flag stops were underway. This time the #28 of Scott Jackson spun in Turn 4 narrowly missing Steven Littrell, who was having an impressive run in the top 5.
With the cars lined up single file, the green flag waved for the final time. Rogers again jumped to a big lead and never looked back. At the checkered, the #1 Chevy of Rogers picked up his first career RGRL victory.
Scott Jackson, Steven Littrell, Dave Azevedo and Si Upton rounded out the top five finishers. Completing the top ten were Chris Forster, Mark Johnson, Travis Wright, Robert Vining, and Brian Roberts.
The Rioux Mods Cup Series visits Atlanta Motor Speedway next Monday Night at 8PM Eastern for the 4th stop on the 2010a schedule. Should be a great race!
