I need help please
« on: 01/26/14, 01:56 AM »

please could some one help me out. i used to use paint.NET, but i wanted
to pant BER 2014 templates. I got CS2 but i am really finding it hard going.
I can not even paint the base colour, every time i do that the head lamps disappear,
along with the contigs and all the other details. I have tried turning all the layers off before putting the base colour down and then turning them back.I just do not know what i am doing wrong.
I can not think of what to do. I have googled tutorials but they seem to take it for granted
that sort of thing can be done already.
So if there is a complete idiots guide to using CS2 and BER templates please point me at it.
Or if any kind person here could tell me i will  verey grateful.
Thank you.

Assuming that those are the templates with folders...
Scroll down to the bottom/lowest folder. The one that is called 'Base'.
Click on the > next to the folder to open it.
The 'Base color' layer should be the lowest/1st one.

You want to do all of your 'painting' on the base layer or above it. To make a new layer hold and press: Ctrl+Shift+N and name it whatever you like.
I've found that any numbers, logos etc. look better when they are above the 'Metallic layer' (if there is one).
I went outside once. The graphics weren't all that great.
I suffer from CDO. It's like OCD, but in alphabetical order, LIKE IT SHOULD BE!
If you can't spill it, it ain't 'paint'!

Hi Sage. Thanks for getting back to me.
I have the checkered base layer showing now and have put a colour on to it.
That is when the details go. Do i need to turn them of to start with,
As in make all layers not visable until i have finished all the base design painting.
because i have tried that but not with all the layers. I have also tried making a new
layer and turning the details back on but nothing comes back.
I have asked at BER but have had no reply.

i am really struggling with the 2014 BER templates and CS2
so i am thinking of using the 2013 templates and paint.NET
If you would do a template like before with the hood included
I would really appreciate it.
Like i said in the top post i can not do even the basic layer
without loosing all detail. Still there are worse thing in life
than being crap at painting for a sim.
Cheers.

Sage is right.  Here's something I might add.  I opened an Outlaw template I had here at work.  I'm on a Mac with CS6, but it should be similar to what you see.  The attached pic is my layers palette.  I highlighted the bottom layer called "Color".  Make sure you have that layer selected by clicking on it before putting color in there, I assume with the paint bucket tool.  On this template, it's the very bottom layer, so everything else (decals, headlights, etc.) should show up above it.  I have CS3 at home on a PC, and it works the same.  Feel free to ask any questions, I work in Photoshop on a daily basis.
